The team at ReardonSmith Landscape were appointed independently by the Client to produce a public realm design guide. The guidelines are intended to be an introduction for architects, designers and developers to the threat of Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs). The guidance covers the importance of designing the public realm in mitigating this threat, especially for higher risk scenarios such as airports, shopping centres, sport stadia, etc. The design encourages the creative use of landscape elements within the public realm to create safer places, whilst not compromising the aesthetic or functional requirements of a scheme.
