The client of the disused quarry site challenged ReardonSmith to develop a unique leisure opportunity for residents and visitors to the north of England. The proposals sought to work with the challenging topography as a partner to the development, to create a nature resort and national centre for outdoor sports.

Hotel, apartments and a conference centre were located against the steep quarry walls with a series of winding sky-walks and boardwalks affording clear views down into the central lakes. A variety of active and passive outdoor sports could be catered for within the proposals including; zip-wires, bungee jumps, water skiing, tree houses, fishing, canyoning, caving, climbing, horse riding and bird watching.
